Since our inaugural conference in 2003 in Waco, TX, TOMMAS has hosted nine conferences for bilingual speech-language pathologists and audiologists working with bilingual populations in Texas. At each conference, scholarships have been awarded to graduate students committed to serving bilingual populations.
The Manuela Juarez Scholarship ($1000) is named in honor of the person providing the impetus for forming a group devoted to providing more advanced, enhanced, and in-depth content for professional training for clinicians working with diverse clients. Dr. Manuela Juarez was a founding member of the group and is a long-time benefactor for this scholarship.
The TOMMAS Scholarship ($500) is a scholarship funded by membership dues and donations. This year, we would like to offer a third scholarship for $500.00.

During the upcoming TOMMAS conference, TOMMAS will award one $1,000 and one $500 scholarship to two bilingual graduate students currently enrolled in a Communication Disorders program in Texas.
We need your help to identify two worthy and deserving graduate students. To qualify for consideration, a student must:
Be bilingual
Plan to serve bilingual populations
Be currently enrolled in graduate studies for Communication Disorders
Write a two page essay describing how the student became interested in serving bilingual individuals as a speech-language pathologist (two pages only, please)
Provide a one page letter of recommendation from a current faculty member. The letter should describe the student’s academic, technical, and interpersonal skills and explain why the student will make a good bilingual SLP.
The TOMMAS scholarship committee will review all applicants and will identify the two scholarship recipients that best represent the spirit and philosophy of our profession and organization. All materials must be postmarked by an upcoming deadline, to be announced. Late submissions will not be eligible for consideration.
